The Theatre Royal Bury St. Edmunds offers four different options for tours

 

General guided tours

 

Duration: 70 minutes
How to book: All guided tours should be booked in advance where possible by telephoning the box office on +44(0)1284 769505
Tour dates: Tours run from February to May and September to November; every Tuesday and Thursday 2pm, Saturday 11am
Cost: £6.00 (adults), £4.50 (concessions: under-18, disabled), Free for National Trust Members

Backstage past—access all era’s tour

 

Duration: 70 minutes
How to book: All guided tours should be booked in advance where possible by telephoning the box office on +44(0)1284 769505
Tour dates: Tours run on Saturdays and Sundays from 17th May 2014 – 2nd August 2014 at 11.30am and 3pm. Private Tours of 10+ can be arranged during this period from Monday to Friday
Cost: £7.50 (adults), £6.00 (concessions: under-18, disabled), £4.75 (Theatre Members and National Trust Members)

Backstage past–access all era’s explore tour

Tour dates: ‘Explore’ runs on Saturdays and Sundays from 17th May 2014 – 2nd August 2014 between 11am and 5pm
Cost: £6.00 (adults), £4.50 (concessions: under-18, disabled), Free for National Trust Members

Open-door sessions

 

If you would prefer to take a more leisurely look around the Theatre, you may visit during a regular Open Door session. Admission to all Open Doors is by donation year-round. No advance booking is required but please check with the Box Office for any schedule changes due to performances or rehearsals.

The Open Door Sessions will be available to the public at the following times:

  • Tuesdays 2pm - 4pm
  • Thursdays 2pm - 4pm
  • Saturdays 10.30am - 1pm

The Theatre Royal is located in the heart of Bury St. Edmunds with easy train links to Norwich and London. There are several car parks nearby.

Designed and built in 1819 by the renowned architect William Wilkins, the Theatre Royal Bury St. Edmunds is the only surviving example of a Regency playhouse and one of only eight Grade 1 listed theatre buildings in England. Owned by the Greene King brewery and in the care of the National Trust, in 2005 the Theatre underwent a major programme of restoration and development, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Theatre was reopened in September 2007. In addition to a year-round programme of drama and other arts performances, the Theatre sets out to bring our fascinating heritage to life for today’s audiences through self explore and guided tours.


The Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is a mix of receiving theatre (welcoming plays on tour, concerts, comedy, dance and community/ amateur musicals), and producing theatre (mounting our own productions of classic plays and new work). Some of our plays are presented as co-productions with other theatres across the UK, and we also present a programme of rural, regional and national touring.
